Drury High School Peer Mediation and SCORE: Student Conflict Resolution Experts
What is Peer Mediation?
Sometimes Drury students find themselves involved in conflicts with
other students that can interfere with their learning. When this
happens, SCORE peer mediators are there to help. Over the years,
dozens of Drury student volunteers have been trained to help resolve
conflicts between their peers. Through mediation, students learn new
ways of handling conflict that can improve their lives beyond their
school years.
What is SCORE?
SCORE, a program of the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, is run by coordinator Cary Quigley M. Ed., an employee of Greenfield’s community mediation program, The Mediation & Training Collaborative. She has run the program since it started at Drury in 2001.
How do I become a mediator?
Students are invited to apply in the fall. Freshman and sophomores are strongly encouraged to apply. Because peer mediation requires that students work with their peers, it is important that the peer mediation team represents the entire student body. You don’t have to have great grades to be a mediator, but you should have respect for others and a willingness to help. Mediation is rewarding and fun, but it also takes work. Peer mediation training takes twenty hours.
